# C-Test at TU Darmstadt: language centre placement

The TU Darmstadt language centre places students in its courses with C-Tests on Moodle, in English and eleven other languages. Its pages give no time limit, but they do give a fixed testing window and strict rules. Here are the facts from the language centre’s pages.

Last checked: 31 October 2026

C-Test Prep is not part of any university. Dates and rules can change; the university’s own page is always authoritative.

## Rules

- You may only register for courses that match your placement test score.
- Anyone who uses unauthorised aids may be excluded from the language centre’s entire programme.
- If you join a beginners’ course with prior knowledge, expect the teacher to remove you, even several weeks after the course starts.
- The window closes at 23:59, so start the test in good time.
- For technical problems with Moodle you write to the language centre’s e-test address; for all other questions, to the student office.

## What this means for your preparation

- Five texts of 20 gaps make 100 gaps, as many as in the C-Test Prep simulation, just spread over one more text (there, 4 texts of 25 gaps).
- Darmstadt states no time limit. Even so, the simulation’s 25-minute clock shows whether you work fluently enough or dwell too long on single gaps.
- With an odd number of letters the gap is longer, as in the Darmstadt example "Da-uer"; the same rule applies in the C-Test Prep texts.
- On Moodle you can work through the sample text in your language at any time; the examples page also shows an English text with the answers in bold.
- Unauthorised aids can cost you the whole course programme here. Practise honestly beforehand instead of looking things up in the test.
