# C-Test at the University of Tübingen: format and levels

The University of Tübingen places students in its language courses with a C-Test, English included. Tübingen is one of the few universities that publishes which score matches which level. Here are the facts from the university’s page, each with its source.

C-Test Prep is not part of any university. Dates and rules can change; the university’s own page is always authoritative.

## Rules and limits

- The test only places you in a course level. It is not a language certificate and cannot be used for scholarship applications.
- Results from other institutions are not accepted, the Münster C-Test included.
- Some courses require a different score; it is given in the course description in ALMA.
- If you pass a course, you move on to the next one without a new test. If you have improved a lot, for example after a stay abroad, you may retake the test and skip a course.

## What this means for your preparation

- Five texts in 25 minutes is 5 minutes per text, less than in Münster (just over 6). Practise with a clock and move on after 5 minutes.
- One attempt per testing period and a result that lasts a year: a weak score stays with you for a long time. Practise before, not in the real test.
- We also use the Tübingen table below for your estimated level in the C-Test Prep simulation. The simulation itself has the Münster format: 4 texts, 100 gaps.
- For practice, Tübingen itself links to the Münster online demo and a sample as a PDF.
