C-Test at Saarland University: English placement
The Saarland University language centre places students in its courses with a C-Test. For English the test is always required, even for beginners. You take it online whenever you like. Here are the facts from the language centre’s page.

C-Test Prep is not part of any university. Dates and rules can change; the university’s own page is always authoritative.

Rules
- The page mentions a maximum time but not its length. If you are unsure, wait until it runs out: your result is then saved automatically.
- Do not close the browser window during the test. iPads have technical limitations; use another device.
- A passed course (grade 4.0 or better) admits you to the next course for three more semesters; after a longer break you need a new test.
- The result does not guarantee a course place. You register online within the deadlines.
- If you think your result is wrong, contact the language coordinators straight away.

What this means for your preparation
- Do the practice test and the sample PDF before you start the real test. Both show you the format and the interface.
- The language centre recommends reading and listening to English for a few days beforehand, especially after a long break.
- The gap rule is the same as in the C-Test Prep texts: with an odd number of letters, the shorter half is given.
- The result lasts three semesters. A good run carries you a long way; so does a weak one.
