C-Test at the University of Stuttgart: English placement
The University of Stuttgart Language Centre places students in English with an online C-Test in ILIAS, taken before you register for a course in C@MPUS. The format is set out in the test’s own introduction, which is publicly readable in the version for guest students. Here are the facts from that ILIAS page and from the Language Centre’s registration page.

Rules and limits
- Click "Test beenden" at the end. Otherwise, says the introduction, ILIAS automatically marks the test as "nicht bestanden" (failed).
- You cannot pause the test. The version for students with an ILIAS account is only visible after logging in, so we could not check its introduction.
- Placement tests decide final admission, according to the Language Centre, and not every course or language has an online test.
- Missing the first class without an excuse loses you your place. Email the teacher or the Language Centre office beforehand if you cannot come.
- C@MPUS only sends an email if you get a firm place. Without admission the status stays at "Belegwunsch" (course request) and no message arrives.

What this means for your preparation
- Five texts in 25 minutes, and the introduction itself advises at most 5 minutes per text. In the C-Test Prep simulation (4 texts, 25 minutes) you have just over 6; for Stuttgart, practise with 5.
- You cannot go back. So do not leave a text half done to return to later: fill in what you can, then move on to the next one.
- The introduction’s examples (eight letters means four missing, five means two or three) fit the gap rule in the C-Test Prep texts.
- There is only one attempt, and an abandoned test is lost. Start it only when you have 25 undisturbed minutes at a reliable computer.

Then, says the introduction, ILIAS automatically marks the test as "nicht bestanden" (failed). Click "Test beenden" yourself when you finish.

Do I have to show my Stuttgart test result?
Yes. Bring it printed or on your device to the first class; missing that class without an excuse loses you the place.
